Vision Statement:
To ensure harm reduction initiatives are incorporated into standard medical practice and nursing curriculum across the country through the creation of a solidarity network of healthcare professionals that work to reduce stigma and promote compassionate care through research, education, advocacy, and hands-on practice.   The Harm Reduction Nurses Coalition will foster partnerships with academia and community-based organizations to implement harm reduction nursing strategies and education modalities to perpetuate positive change and build healthier communities.

 

HARM REDUCTION NURSES COALITION OF AMERICA MISSION STATEMENT

The Harm Reduction Nurses Coalition is an alliance of American nurses and medical professionals uniting for the purpose of advancing harm reduction nursing through practice, education, research and advocacy.  The mission of the Harm Reduction Nurses Coalition is to reduce stigma associated with addiction and substance use while promoting positive change for marginalized groups and those affected by the war on drugs. The HRNC strives to achieve this mission through the following actions:  


  • Serving as a national voice for harm reduction and nursing related issues.

  • Promoting education and continuous learning opportunities for nurses, medical professionals and the general public.

  • Facilitating research and disseminating evidence to enhance the health of people affected by drug use.

  • Providing opportunities to share nursing knowledge, expertise and practices.

  • Working with lawmakers and lobbyist to ensure public policies are legislated that benefit underserved communities, ethnic minorities, women and people who use drugs.

  • Encouraging evidence-based harm reduction nursing practices.

  • Creating a dynamic network to support and mentor nurses across the country.

  • Advocating for the creation and implementation of harm reduction policies in hospitals and community health settings.

  • Working collaboratively with partners and community stake holders to address structural conditions that create harms.

  • Advocating for the rights and dignity of people who use drugs and their families.

 
 

ACTIVITIES

Harm Reduction Nurses Coalition of America is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. We work on many exciting projects to help improve the lives of others, and are very proud of the progress we continue to make.
